Treaty of London: Council of Europe a turning point in the history of Europe

Council of Europe represented
a turning point in the history of Europe
On May 7 1949 United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Ireland signed the Treaty of London giving birth to the Council of Europe. This new european organization will be formed by the Council of Ministers, the Consultative Assembly and the General Secretary:

Council of Ministers: Formed by Foreign Affairs ministers from member states its functions will be the promotion of initiatives to reinforce unity and harmony between european states but also to send recommendations to member states about certain issues. 

Consultative Assembly: Formed by deputies from member and associate states with due proportion to his population. Its functions consist in make recommendations to the Council of Ministers and to solve issues send by the Council of Ministers. Despite of its subordination to the Council of Ministers Consultative Assembly represented a turning point because was the first parliament of the history of Europe.

Secretary General: Supervises the implementation of the recommendations issued by the Council of Ministers.

Council of Europe represented a turning point in the history of a continent like Europe ravaged by war reperesenting a rectification aimed to build peace through unity and stability.
